Abstract

The backs are placed on a flat surface (2) at one end of the machine. When a pile is formed, a clamp (23, 30) comes in each side to grip it. This clamp comprises two parallel fingers (40, 50) opened and closed automatically (23', 24'). After being gripped, the clamps rotate (60) and form the pile into a roll. The clamp units (13, 14) then move in unison along parallel rails (11, 12) to the other end of the machine. There the roll is pressed against two spools (100) of adhesive tape which rotate (101) and apply the tape around the roll. The roll is prevented from unwinding by flexible strips (130) holding it together.
