Abstract

PURPOSE: To automate the polarizing plate gluing process in liquid crystal display device production, by providing a device to temporarily glue the polarizing plate to the liquid crystal display element in a way to force out the air from the gluing surface.
CONSTITUTION: When passing a carrier tape 21 through an acute angle 23 of the head and reeling on a roller 24, a polarizing plate 20 separated from the tape 21 is received at the end of a vacuum chuck 12. The vacuum chuck 12 accepting the polarizing plate 20 is moved from position A to position B of a guide rail 26 to which a liquid crystal display element 25 is conveyed. The liquid crystal display element 25 is positioned and kept still at position B, and the vacuum chuck 12 is pressed on the upper and lower faces of the element 25. At this time, the polarizing plate 20 is glued to the element 25, first from the central part 30 then to the outside progressively. When the polarizing plate 20 is temporarily glued to both sides of the element 25, the element 25 is conveyed to the right, and is heated to 40W60°C by a heater 14 to soften the glue on the surface, and the polarizing plate is passed between two rollers 15 to be glued firmly.
