Abstract
798,598. Pipe joints. GRATZMULLER, J. L. March 20, 1956, No. 8698/56. Class 99(1). A pipe coupling according to Specification 757,497 is connected to each opening in a junction piece which may be a straight tubular piece 1, Fig. 1, for connecting two pipes 2 in alignment, a bend or elbow for connecting two pipes out of alignment, or a tee, cross, or other fitting for connecting more than two pipes together. Sleeves 3 screw on to the member 1, a flange 8 on each sleeve engaging an inner conical sealing ring 4 to force it into an outer ring 5. In Fig. 2, the outer rings are integral with the junction piece thus forming a single member 17 ; in a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the member 17 has a smooth outer surface, and one member 8 screws into the other. A flange 11 on the sealing ring 4 may be dispensed with. A pipe may be coupled to the wall of a vessel containing fluid under pressure instead of to a junction piece, and the coupling sleeves instead of having screw-threaded connections may be connected by studs or bolts engaging apertures in the sleeves or in flanges thereon.
