Abstract

796,615. Ball and socket joints. THOMPSON PRODUCTS, Inc. Dec. 12, 1955 [Jan. 21, 1955], No. 35595/55. Class 65(2) The axial ends of the bearing sleeves 15, 16 arranged between the ball 13b and the socket 11 are deformed by the ball to form accurate bearing surfaces, the sleeves being composed at least in part of a synthetic resinous material. The sleeves may be made of nylon, a woven fabric of nylon, a backing fabric or rubber faced with a synthetic resin, or a cotton duck fabric impregnated or coated with a synthetic resin. They are impregnated with a lubricant. Loading of the joint is effected by an undulating washer 17. A modification employs one only of the bearing sleeves, the ball being engaged by a spring-loaded washer.
