805,539. Cylindrical journal bearings. CLAYTON-WRIGHT Ltd., H. Oct. 10, 1956 [Oct. 11, 1955], No. 28868/55. Class 12 (1). [Also in Groups XXV and XXXII] A journal bearing comprises an inner bearing liner 14, formed of plastics material, preferably nylon, and having a slit 15 stretching from one end to the other, a rigid backing sleeve 13, and an outer rubber sleeve 10 located in the outer bearing housing by means of bosses 11. Alternatively, the inner liner may have a slit of buttress formation which assists in retaining lubricant in the bearing and may be located by means of inwardly-directed flanges at the ends of the backing sleeve,. or by bosses engaging the sleeve. The outer rubber sleeve may be held under radial compression to withstand radial load, and the bearing may be adapted to withstand axial thrust by the provision of nylon thrust washers which bear against the inwardly-turned ends of the outer housing or the outwardly-turned edges of the backing sleeve.
