Abstract
792,858. Gas turbine plant. SPALDING, D. B. Feb. 27, 1956 [March 3, 1955], No. 6295/55. Class 110 (3). [Also in Group XXVIII] In pressure exchange apparatus comprising first and second cell rings 1, 14, fluid entering at 2 is discharged to duct 4, heated by a burner or heat exchanger 7 and passes by a duct 19 to the cell ring 14 compressing fluid which entered at 17 which is subsequently discharged through a duct 18 and a turbine 15. Remaining fluid in the cells 14 passes by a duct 10 to an inlet 3 to the cells 1 whereby fluid entering at 2 is further compressed. Fluid remaining in the cells 1 after duct 4 is partly discharged through a turbine 11 and the remainder through a duct 6. The duct 18 and turbine 15 need not be fitted. In a further embodiment the fluid from the ring 14 is fed in stages to appropriate stages of the ring 1 by several ducts. The intake 2 in this embodiment may be eliminated. The apparatus is described as operating by separate shock and rarefaction waves or by suitable spacing of the ducts, combined waves. Transfer passages may be used. The cell ring may supply fluid to intermediate stages of the turbines. The fluid may be steam. If a heat exchanger is used the fluid may be air only. Specification 792,857 is referred to.
