Abstract
1,073,195. Pressure exchangers. ROLLSROYCE Ltd. April 4, 1966, No. 14959/66. Heading F1N. A pressure exchanger, Fig. 2 (not shown) for use in a gas turbine engine or jet propulsion engine comprises end plates (30, 31) having rotatable therebetween a cell ring (27), the end plates (30, 31) having inlet and outlet ducts (35, 37) connected to an annular combustion chamber (22) surrounding the exchanger, an inlet duct (33) for gas compressed by the turbine compressor, an outlet duct (39) connected to the inlet of the turbine and a transfer duct (44) connected between an outlet port (43) and an inlet port (45). The transfer duct (44) is arranged to receive from the cells relatively cool gas which has not passed through the outlet (37) to the combustion chamber (22). The cool gas in the transfer duct is readmitted to cells having previously received relatively hot gas through the duct (35) connected to the combustion chamber but before the relatively hot gas in the cells passes to the outlet duct (39).
