Abstract

792,290. Seaming. BLACKBURN & GENERAL AIRCRAFT, Ltd., and GRAND, B. J. C. Sept. 20, 1956, No. 28852/56. Class 42 ((1). [Also in Group XVII] The mouth of a bag made of relatively thick thermoplastic sheet material, e.g. sheet polythene having a thickness of 0.01-0.03 inch, is sealed by applying pressure to its opposed walls 1 and 2 and generating the required heat by passing an electric current, e.g. from a 12 or 24 volt battery, through a wire 3 which is disposed between the walls and subsequently remains in position for use as a rip wire and/or for resealing the bag mouth after the walls 1 and 2 have been separated. The wire 3 may be incorporated in the bag during manufacture as by attaching it to the inside of the wall 1 by a covering layer or pieces of thin thermoplastic sheet material 4 secured to the wall by adhesive or the application of heat.
