875,658. Cartons : packages. CHRISTENSSON, O. V. Nov. 4, 1959 [Nov. 12, 1958 ; Feb. 23, 1959], No. 37404/59. Classes 18 and 94(1). A carton as in Fig. 1 adapted to be vacuum closed with end closing flaps 12-15 connected to short sides 11 and flaps 16 19 connected to long sides 10 has an inner lining 20 attached to the inside of the carton at separate adhesion points e.g. 33-35, see Fig. 3, of such size and distribution that the adhesive strength between carton and lining suffices to keep the lining attached to the carton during folding from the blank and closing of the end flaps, but not after evacuation of the lining and subjection of the assembly to atmospheric pressure. In this way, deformation of the carton due to adhesion to the lining after vacuum-closing is avoided. Pasting strip 31 on the blank adheres to connection flap 32 on its reverse side to form the tubular carton. In the embodiment shown, the bottom part 21 of the lining 20 (which is preferably made of a weldable transparent plastics material) is flattened and welded together before closing the end closing flaps 14, 15, 18, 19. In another embodiment, the lining is in bag-form before the blank is folded about it.
