Abstract
790,439. Automatic resistance control systems. EGYESULT IZZOLAMPA ES VILLAMOSSAGI R.T. July 27, 1955 [July 27, 1954], No. 21718/55. Class 38 (4). [Also in Group XXXVI] Tungsten filaments for oxide cathodes are electrolytically polished before oxidation, the polishing current being varied with the resistance of a fixed length of filament issuing from the electrolytic bath, whereby the resistance per unit length of the filament is maintained at a desired value. A section 7 of the filament issuing from the bath 4, having the filament as anode, is connected between fixed contacts 5, 6 in a bridge network 8 comprising a fixed resistor 14 and a datum-setting resistor 13. The bridge is supplied from a D.C. source 9 and has its output applied in the grid circuit of a valve 10 having the bath 4 in its anode circuit with an H.T. supply 11, whereby deviations of the resistance of the section 7 from a desired value, set by the tapping on resistor 13, cause corrective variations in the polishing current so that the resistance of the filament is maintained at the desired value. A multi-stage amplifier may replace the single valve.
