In a mains/battery receiver comprising a number of directly-heated valves with their filaments 4 connected in series and, in mains operation, to A.C. or D.C. mains via a series resistor 3 and rectifying network 2, the effect of mains voltage variations is reduced by connecting, in parallel with the filaments 4, the battery 6 in series with a rectifier 5. The switch 7 provides for operation on batteries.
