Abstract
542,092. Valve circuits. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO, Ltd., and MIDGLEY, D. Aug. 27, 1940, No. 13510. [Class 40 (v)] In valve circuits of the condenser-relaxation type or of other types in which the mean anode current is variable or adjustable in operation, the grid bias is maintained constant by inserting a gas-filled tube in the cathode lead. In the time-base circuit shown, a condenser 5 is charged through a variable resistance 6 and discharged through a triode valve 1, usually gasfilled. The tube 8 is connected in parallel with the cathode resistance 10 and its anode is connected to HT+ through a resistance 7. The grid 3 of the valve 1 is connected to a tapping on the resistance 10. The arrangement gives a constant voltage between the cathode 2 and HT-, and therefore a constant bias on the grid 3, despite variations in the mean anode current which occur when the frequency is changed by varying the resistance 6. Specifications 424,429 and 539,603 are referred to.
