Class 120(2) Lappet yarn guides are carried at the ends of arms mounted . for pivoting about a horizontal axis on a support participating in the movement of the ring rail of a ring spinning machine, so as to permit pivoting of said guides to an out-of-the-way position and means are provided which are operative when the ring rail is moving on a supplementary underwinding stroke to act on the arms to automatically pivot them upwards into the out-of-the-way position during the underwinding stroke. In the arrangement shown, yarn guides 2 are disposed at the end of pivoted arms 3 mounted on a support 4 which participates in the vertical movements of the ring rail of the machine. Bars 8 are slidably disposed on either side of the support 4 and when moved upwards by contacting fixed abutments 10, pivot the arms 3 upwards. The abutments 10 are carried by the frame of the machine and are positioned so that they cause the bars 8 to move upwardly with respect to the support 4 when the ring rail is moving down in the course of the underwinding stroke.
