Abstract

859,631. Donning and doffing apparatus for textile ring spinning &c. frames. SCRIVEN, F. W. A. March 6, 1958, No. 7238/58. Class 120(2). In a donning and doffing device for a textile ring-spinning &c. machine having one or more support members along the length of the machine and mounted for rotation about their longitudinal axis, each support member having two sets of cop-gripping means and each set being spaced apart along the length of the support member and disposed opposite the other set, means being provided for raising and lowering the support members relatively to the machine, that set of cop-gripping means provided for engaging and doffing full cops comprises a series of pivotally-mounted members 110, to engage resiliently the small end of the cop and a corresponding series of forked members 102 to engage and support the large end. The members 110 are pivoted to arms 100 pivoted to a bar 24 and connected together by a bar 106: the members 102 are mounted on a rail 26. A leafspring 116 urges the members 110 downwardly and a spring 108 connects the bar 106 and rail 26. Each member 110 has a recess to receive the small end of a cop and each forked member has blocks 118 to receive the large end. The bar 106 has one or more latches 120 which, as the frame is lowered for doffing, engages a corresponding number of catches 122 on the spinning frame so that all the arms 100 are temporarily raised together, clear of the tops of the cops.
