Class 44 [Also in Group VII] An interlocking assembly comprises asocket member 33 having an opening therethrough, a stud member 32 extending through said socket member and a tubular bushing 35 of elastic rubber having an opening therethrough surrounding the stud member and filling the space between the stud member and the wall of the opening through said socket member to lock said stud member to said socket member and is characterized in that the said stud member has a shoulder portion 39 that contacts a face of the tubular bushing around the opening therein, a stem integral with its shoulder portion extending through such opening and an enlarged head 41 of a size greater than the internal diameter of the bushing and less than the opening through said socket member providing a circumferential shoulder 42 around the stem of said stud member, said bushing having a flange 37 at one end interposed between the shoulder portion of said stud member and said socket member and a tubular portion extending past the circumferential shoulder around the stem of said stud member which tubular portion is expanded by the head of said stud member to lock said stud member to said socket member. As shown the stud member and bushing are of annular crosssection and the stud member is the tip.of a chair leg 31. It can however also be used for securing together two apertured plates which constitute the socket member. The head of the stud member is tapered to facilitate its insertion through the bushing and the internal diameter of the tubular portion of the bushing is made smaller than the internal diameter of the stem of the stud member so that the portion of the bushing between the exterior of the stem and the wall of the opening in the socket member 33 in the chair leg is under radial pressure. The enlarged head of the stud member is spaced from the shoulder portion by a distance greater than the thickness of the flange of the bushing together with the length of the opening in the socket member and is of a size to expand the unflanged end of the bushing to a diameter greater than the opening through the socket member to lock the stud member to the socket member. The stud member and the socket member opening can have a cross-section other than circular.
