Abstract

828,801. Resilient mountings; assembling rubber-bush mountings. GENERAL TIRE & RUBBER CO. June 8, 1956 [June 14, 1955], No. 17814/56. Class 108(3) The invention relates to a resilient mounting comprising a rubber insert 3a radially compressed between a rigid outer sleeve 1a and an inner rigid sleeve or core 2a, and having when unstressed, before assembly, a radial thickness greater than the radial distance between the sleeves 1a and 2a, and being inserted between the latter with the aid of a temporary lubricant absorbable by the insert 3a. According to the invention, a single internal axially-concave circumferential recess 7a is provided in the sleeve 1a to hold the insert 3a in place until the lubricant is absorbed thereby, the radial depth of the recess 7a being approximately 10 to 20% of the radial thickness of the sleeve 1a and its axial width being several times this radial thickness. As shown, the sleeve 1a is formed with two bores 6a, 18, of different respective diameters, and a flange 4a. The ends 19, 20 of the sleeve 2a are serrated. In its unstressed condition before assembly, the insert 3a is annular in shape except for a flared mouth to its bore at the flange end, and a tapered outer circumference at the other end. The recess 7a may alternatively be of the shape shown in Fig. 7 at 7b. Another construction is described (Figs. 1 to 4, not shown) in which the insert is formed with a flange in its uncompressed state and the inner sleeve 2a and the insert 3a extend beyond the end of the sleeve 1a at the end of the mounting opposite to the flange 4a. The sleeve 1a may be formed by a punching operation the recess 7a being produced by drawing.
