Abstract

714,950. Resilient mountings. SILENTBLOC, Ltd. Feb. 24, 1953 [March 3, 1952], No. 5523/52. Addition to 667,232. Class 108(3) In a resilient support as claimed in claim 1 of the parent Specification, a cylindrical surface portion A' merges into the larger diameter end of the conical surface A of the outer member. The flange G<3> of the rubber bushing shown, may be dispensed with, and under no load, the end face G<4> of the bushing then meets Figs. 1-3 (not shown), the outer member intermediate the ends of the axial length of the cylindrical portion A<1>. Before insertion of the inner member F the member G fits the outer member A except at the portion A<1> where there is a circumferential clearance, Fig. 5 (not shown). The bolt F may be disposed within a hollow tube which then forms the inner rigid member of the support, Figs. 1-3 (not shown). The bushing G may or may not be bonded to the inner or outer members. According to the Provisional Specification the surface A<1> and flange A<3> may form the abutment of the coil spring of a vehicle independent wheel suspension. The smaller diameter end of the outer member may also be flanged. In assembly, the inner member may be inserted after the bushing has been bonded to the outer member. Alternatively, the bushing may be assembled in an uncompressed state between the inner and outer members, and the outer member is then swaged to effect radial compression of the bushing..
