Abstract

706,558. Resilient mountings. METALASTIK, Ltd. March 14, 1952 [Jan. 16, 1951], No. 1160/51. Class 108(3) A resilient mounting comprises a rubber element 12 interposed between concentrically - disposed inner and outer conical metal members 10, 11 free surfaces 26, 26<1> of the element 12 being adapted to engage flat peripheral regions of an inwardlydirected tlange 14 of the outer member 11 and an outwardly-directed flange 15 of the inner member 10, and a rigid central sleeve 17 secured to the outer member 11 and formed with a rebound plate 18 which engages a rubber element 19 located within the inner member 11. As shown, the element 12 is not bonded to the members 10, 11. The element 12 may be formed with bearing lands 22, 23 for engagement with the respective flanges 14, 15. The rubber adjacent both free surfaces may be undercut, fluted or cored out as shown at 25. The element 12 may be bonded to the members 10, 11, and the element 19 may be bonded to the member 10 and plate 18, Figs. 4, 5. (not shown). The elements 12 and 19 may be unitary, the surface 26 being extended above the upper end of the member 10 into engagement with the sleeve 17. The member 10 is thus embedded in the unitary rubber element 12, Fig. 3, (not shown). Where the surfaces of the body to be supported, or of the support, are irregular, the respective mating surfaces of the members 10, 11 may be given a thin coating of rubber. The flange 14 may be welded to the member 11 after the element 12 has been bonded in position, Fig. 6 (not shown). In operation, tthe spring rate of the mounting is S-shaped, the minimum stiffness being intended to occur under static load. The mounting is suitable for providing accoustical insulation for dealing with vibrations higher than 1500 cycles per minute. According to the Provisional Specification, the sleeve 17 may be replaced by a bolt, and a sleeve maybe provided to limit deflection. The member 11 may be secured to the body (or support) by a flange at its larger diameter end. The radial width of the flange 14 is then reduced or dispensed with, and the rubber of the element 12 is extended round on to the outer surface of the smaller-diameter end of the member 11 to form a rebound stop which replaces the element. 19.
