Abstract

1456258 Vibration isolators ARFINA ANSTALT FUR CONTINENTALE UND UEBERSEEFINANZINTERESSEN 17 Dec 1973 [21 Dec 1972] 58431/73 Heading F2 A vibration isolator, for isolating engine vibrations from a vehicle chassis on which the engine is mounted, comprises two rigid members 1, 2, one of them being substantially flat, connected by an elastomeric member 7 to provide a sealed chamber containing viscous material 16, part of the elastomeric member having the shape of a dome 9 and receiving the other of the rigid members at its centre. The viscous material is a silicone grease, polyisobutyl tar, or crude elastomer. The elastomeric member 7 is made of a silicone elastomer, natural rubber, neoprene or butyl rubber. A cylindrical portion of the member 7 is strengthened by a metal sleeve. To the rigid member 1 is attached a disc 20 against which bears a spring 17. An elastomeric rim 20a on the disc 20 provides a stop to lateral movement. Alternatively (Fig. 5 not shown) the top and bottom surfaces of the disc may bear knitted wire cushions to provide axial movement stops. A graph is given (Fig. 6 not shown) of the frequency response of the vibration isolator.
