590,762. Vessels for corrosive liquids. ARNOLD, J. C. (Standard Oil Development Co.) April 18, 1945, No. 9713. [Class 66] A lined vessel comprises, e.g., an upper cylindrical part 14 and a lower frusto-conical part 15, which, respectively, have metallic outer shells 11 and 19 secured together at 20 and have, in common, a corrosion resistant, unbroken metallic lining 16 made preferably of lead and fitted flush with them. The shells have slots 12 at regular or staggered intervals. The cylindrical part of the lining is supported by passing a projection 18 (integral with the lining and preferably reinforced by a block of lead 17 fused to both), through each slot and bringing the projection to bear against the outside of the shell, e.g., by turning the projection over a shelf 13 secured to the shell 11, coplanar with the base of the slot. The frusto-conical part of the lining is secured by cutting slots therein which coincide with the shell slots and then burning the lining to sheets of lead 24, bearing outside the shell, by fusing lead into the slots so as to form corelike projections 25. Vessels having curved or flat surfaces may be so lined. An additional acid resistant ceramic lining 21, may be superimposed on the frusto-conical metal lining.
