Abstract

774,176. Zips for furniture legs. HUSGEN, H. E., and DANIELS, R. R. J. Mar. 8, 1954 [June 15, 1953], No. 16464/53. Addition to 717,084. Class 134. A tube closure device, Fig. 2, comprises a mild steel stud 21 having spring legs 24 and 25. A mild steel cap 22 is secured to the stud 21 by two stakes 31. A plug 23 of rubber or like resilient material is forced into an aperture 29 in the cap 22. A hole 28 in the stud 21 allows air to escape when the plug is being forced into the cap. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 10 a cover 36 is secured by means of stakes to a stud 32 of mild steel or other suitable rigid material. A mild steel cap 37 is secured by means of stakes to a metal liner 38. The two parts together with a rubber plug 39 are then placed in a mould under heat and pressure whereby the plug 39 is moulded around and bonded to both the cover and lined cap. The cover 36 and liner 38 are made of brass or other metal which will bond to rubber or rubber substitutes. Alternatively the metal to be bonded may be treated, e.g. by phosphorizing, so that it will bond to rubber. In a further embodiment a rubber plug is bonded to a stud and cover as shown in Fig. 10, and a steel cap is then spun on to an annular bead formed at the lower end of the plug.
