Abstract

504,638. Testing packing - joints. NEWPORT (MON.) GAS CO., and FELTON, C. B. Nov. 9,1937, No. 30671. [Class 122 (iii)] [Also in Group XXVIII] A flexible wrapping 4 is secured around the joint between two gas or like pipes 5 so as to form a chamber' into which a liquid can be poured at 11 so that any leakage from the joint can be located by bubbles in the liquid. As shown, the wrapping is moulded from rubber and has a central spherical part forming the chamber and at each side a part 7 which closely grips the pipes. The wrapping is split at 8 to allow it to be placed around the joint and secured by bolts 10 or other As an alternative, the wrapping may be a rectangular sheet of rubber secured around the pipes at each side of the joint.
