Abstract
487,780. Joint - making packing. GOLDSCHMIDT, M. Dec. 21, 1936, No. 35020. Convention date, Dec. 23, 1935. [Class 122 (iii)] [Also in Group XXVIII] The flanged ends of two pipes 1, 2 are jointed by an interposed rubber ring 5 having metal plates 6, 7 which are vulcanized to the sides thereof and are connected to the pipe flanges 3, 4 by staggered screws 8. The rubber ring extends beyond the outer edges of the metal plates and around and laterally with respect thereto, and it is enclosed in a metal casing 11 preferably consisting of two symmetrical parts connected together by welding &c. The inner surface of the rubber ring may be provided with a layer of an oil-resisting substance, e.g. synthetic rubber, and the ring may be further protected by an internal sleeve which is secured to the plate 6 and is slidable in the plate 7.
