Abstract

280,644. Spencer, Ltd., J., and Spencer, Sir T. H. Aug. 19, 1926. Joints formed by welding. -A joint between the adjacent ends of two pipes a, b, Fig. 1, is formed by providing the pipe ends with overlapping portions c, d, welding them together at the outer edge d<2> of the overlapping portion d, and relieving the weld of strains by screwed means, such as an external sleeve e. The overlapping portions c, d are preferably rings which are screwed onto the pipes and further secured bv welding, while the sleeve e is provided with a vent e<1> so that any leakage may be detected. Modified joints are shown in Figs. 2 and 3.
