786,510. Latches. PRESSED STEEL CO., Ltd. Feb. 3, 1956 [Jan. 26. 1955], No, 2293/55 Class 44. A door latch comprises a striker and a bolt, the striker consisting of a peg 11 formed with a helical groove or grooves 12, and the bolt being in the form of a socket 21 formed with an internal dog or dogs 24 to engage the groove or grooves 12, the striker being mounted to be non- rotatable and the bolt being rotatable by linkage mechanism (not shown). The bolt 21 is held in either of its extreme positions by a spring 29. The bolt 21 rotates in a plate 22 and is formed with an extension 25 carrying a pin 26 which engages an arcuate slot 27 in the plate 22, a second pin 28 on the extension 25 being coupled by a link to an operating handle. The striker 11 is floatingly mounted on e.g. a refrigerator or vehicle door surround 20 by means of a screw 14, coiled spring 15 and an adjusting plate 16 formed with a projection 17 to engage notches 18 formed in the rear face of the striker. The groove 12 may be of uniform or tapering pitch. The bolt and striker may also be tapered to facilitate engagement.
