Abstract
786,494. Hulling and cleaning grain. JACOBSON, S. Sept. 6, 1954 [Sept. 7, 1953], No. 25828/54. Class 58. In apparatus for hulling and cleaning grain, the grain is fed from a hopper 16 through a flap valve 17, a winnowing chamber 9 and a conduit 15 into a huller 1, wherein it is subjected to the action of a jet of air issuing from a nozzle 2, preferably at supersonic speed. The air carries the grain through a conduit 4 and a decelerating chamber 5 into a cyclone 6, from which air escapes through an outlet 7, and the grain returns to the chamber 9, where it meets a winnowing upward current of air, which enters the chamber through a screen 12 and carries chaff to a receiver 14 removably attached to the lower end of a cyclone 13, whose upper end is connected to a fan 10. By actuating a flap valve 20, hulled grain can be deflected through a branch conduit 18 into a detachable receiver 19.
