Abstract

801,758. Centrifugal fans. DAVIDSON & CO., Ltd. Sept. 7, 1956 [Sept. 26, 1955], No. 27378/55. Class 110 (1). Dust is dislodged from the blades of a centrifugal fan by at least one stream of fluid issuing from a stationary nozzle device located within the fan impeller and connected by ducting to a fluid supply source. In the centrifugal fan shown, air extracted from the fan discharge through an orifice 18 at the volute cut-off 19 passes, by way of a chamber 20 and a duct 17, to a nozzle 16 disposed inwardly of the inlet edges of the impeller blades 26. The nozzle 16 directs a stream of air on to the blades 26, preferably on to their trailing faces, to dislodge dust from them. The action of the air may be assisted by granular material, fed into the duct 17 from a hopper 21 through a control valve 23. The single wide nozzle 16 may be replaced by several smaller nozzles spaced along the duct 17. The cleaning fluid may be supplied from a separate source instead of from the fan discharge, and may be water instead of air.
