Abstract
959,730. Pneumatic separators. K. KORBER. May 17, 1963 [July 12, 1962], No. 26827/62. Heading B2H. Tobacco or other fibrous material to be separated is fed to a separating chember 19 via a rising duct 8 partitioned into smaller ducts 9, 10, 11 which open at different levels into the separating chamber. As shown, tobacco from a leaf-stripping device falls down a hopper 5 controlled by a flap 4 and is swept towards the duct 8 by air which is delivered by a fan 40 and modified by heating and moistening devices 38, 39. The total amount of air passing the hopper 5 is controlled by a flap disposed near the outlet of the fan and the passage of air and tobacco through the ducts 9, 10, 11 by throttles 16, 17, 18. The lower ends of the partitions 12, 13 may be provided, as shown, with adjustable flaps 14, 15 which extend into the inlet passage 6. The heavier material will tend to follow the path of the lower duct 11 and, in the separating chamber, the heavier material from each duct falls by gravity and, if desired, to a further separating chamber 28 while the lighter material is carried over a deflector 20 and past a screen 22 connected to the suction side of the fan 40 by a duct 33 ; the material is extracted by a cell-wheel 23 and delivered for further processing into a receiver 25 connected to a suction tube 41.
