Class 7(2) A two-stroke engine has twelve in-line cylinders the firing order of which is 1 - 11 - 4 - 6 - 8 - 3 - 12 - 2 - 9 - 7 - 5 - 10, the corresponding cranks of the crankshaft, which is built up from halves unlike in their crank arrangement, being progressively offset by 30 degrees. A ninth order torsional stress at a speed within the operating range and too large for continuous running at that speed, which stress exists with a known crank sequence of 1 - 6 - 8 - 10 - 3 - 5 - 7 - 12 - 2 - 4 - 9 - 11, is thus avoided.
