Abstract

The invention comprises dyestuffs of formula <FORM:0785345/IV (b)/1> where X is a direct linkage or -OCH2- and R is a benzene residue containing OH or MeO o-to the azo link and their metal derivatives containing less than one atom of metal per mol. of dyestuff. They are made by coupling, advantageously in an alkaline medium, an appropriate 1 - hydroxyacylamino - 7 - naphthol with the required diazo compound and treating the product in substance or on the fibre with metal-yielding agents. Azo components indicated are 2-amino-phenol and its halogen, nitrogen, acylamino, sulphonamido, substituted sulphonamido and sulphonyl derivatives and the corresponding 2 - amino - 1 - methoxy compounds, preferred being 2-aminophenol-4-sulphonamide, -sulphonmethylamide, -sulphonic acid-(21-hydroxy)-ethyl- and -(31-methoxy)-propyl-amides and sulphon-benzyl-, -cyclohexyl- and -phenylamides, the latter of which may be substituted in the phenyl-amide residue with carboxyl, acylamino, sulphonamido, sulphonmethylamido and sulphondimethylamido groups and 2-amino-1-hydroxy-4-methylsulphonylbenzene. 1 - Hydroxyacetylamino- and 1 - carbo - (21-hydroxy) - ethoxyamino - 7 - naphthols are specified 7-naphthols. Chromium and cobalt are specified metals. Metallization is effected in conventional fashion. Mixtures of the dyestuffs may be metallized. Wool, silk, Tussore, leather, acetate rayon and polyester and synthetic nitrogenous fibres may be dyed. Blue grey to olive dyeings are obtained on metallization. In examples illustrating the preparation of the dyestuffs and their use in dyeing azo components and additional to certain of those specified above are 2-aminophenol-5-sulphonamide, -4 - sulphon - (31 - sulphonamido-, -sulphomethylamido- and -acetylamino-, 21-sulphodimethylamido- and 41 - sulphomethyl - amido-) -phenylamides, -(21 - methoxy- and 11 - ethyl - 21 - hydroxy-)-ethyl-amides, -(21-hydroxy)- and di-(21-hydroxy)-propylamides, -ethyl- and -diethylamides and -pyrrolidide and 5 - sulphon - morpholide, 2-amino-1-hydroxy - 4 - chloro-, -4- and -5 - nitro-, -4-chloro-5- and -6-nitro-, -4-nitro-6-acetylamino-and -4 - methyl - 6 - acetyl - benzenes, additional 7-naphthols being 1-(21-hydroxy)-propyl-and -(31 - hydroxy) - butyryl- and 1 - carbo-(31-hydroxy)- and -(41 - hydroxy) - butoxy-amino-7-naphthols.
