Abstract

The invention comprises azo dyestuff of the phthalocyanine series of formula:- <FORM:0874355/IV(c)/1> wherein Phth is a phthalocyanine residue which may contain metal, X is hydrogen or an alkyl, aralkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl radical, R1 is the radical of an oxo-, hydroxy- or aminocompound capable of coupling, R2 is an arylene residue, Y the residue of a saturated or unsaturated halofatty acid or of a mono- or di-halotriazine compound, Z is a carboxy and/or sulphonic acid group, m is an integer of at least 2 and n is an integer from 1-4. The dyestuffs are prepared by (a) reacting a phthalocyanine sulphonyl halide with an amino-compound (X-HN-R1-H) capable of coupling which contains an oxo-, hydroxy- or further amino group and coupling the condensation product with a diazo compound from an arylamine (H2N-R2-N(X)-Y), or (b) reacting a phthalocyanine sulphonyl halide with an aminoazo compound (X-NH-R1 -N=N-R2-NX-Y), or (c) treating a phthalocyanine-azo dye of the formula above but where Y is hydrogen with a saturated or unsaturated halo-fatty acid halide or anhydride or a di- or tri-halotriazine, the components being so selected that the final dyestuff contains at least one reactive halogen atom and at least two carboxylic and/or sulphonic acid groups. The dyestuffs may be used to dye animal and synthetic polyamide fibres, but preferably are used to dye cellulose materials in the presence of acidbinding agents, in green, brown, blue, grey and black shades. Many examples and intermediate compounds are specified. The aminoazo dyestuff 1-amino- 3-acetylaminobenzene- 6-sulphonic acid --> 1-(31-aminophenyl)-5-pyrazolone-3-carboxylic acid is prepared intermediately.
