Abstract

The invention comprises metal-containing azo dyes of the general formula <FORM:0988958/C4-C5/1> wherein W is a halotriazinyl, halodiazinyl, haloquinoxalinoyl or haloquinoxaline-sulphonyl radical, A is an unsubstituted or substituted aryl radical, R is a hydrogen atom or a substituent, B is an unsubstituted or substituted phenylene or naphthylene radical, in which the metal complex bound substituent is in the o-position to the azo group on the left-hand side of the radical B, Me is a polyvalent metal atom and X is -O- or -OOC-. The dyes may be prepared by reacting appropriate metallized dyes with a halotriazine, halodiazine, haloquinoxaline carboxylic acid halide or haloquinoxaline sulphonic acid halide. In examples: the copper complex of the dye obtained by coupling the diazonium compound from 4-amino - 5 - methoxy - 2 - methyl - 1,11 - azobenzene -sulphonic acid (41) and treating the aminoazo dye obtained under dealkylating conditions with copper yielding agents, is reacted in aqueous solution with cyanuric chloride or tetrachloro-pyrimidine (1); and the copper complex, obtained by coupling diazotized 1 - amino - benzene - 3,5 - disulphonic acid with 2-ethoxy-1-aminonaphthalene-6-sulphonic acid, diazotizing the aminoazo compound obtained, coupling with 2-acetylamino - 5 - hydroxy - naphthalene - 4,8 - disulphonic acid converting into the copper complex under dealkylating conditions and hydrolysing the acetylamino group, is dissolved in water and reacted with 2,3-dichloro-quinoxaline - 6 - carboxylic acid chloride or -6-sulphonic acid chloride. Additional starting materials are listed. 6-Nitro-1-hydroxynaphthalene-4, 8-disulphonic acid may be employed as starting material according to the process of Specification 907,384 and the nitro group converted into an amino group or acylamino group. The dyes are suitable for dyeing and printing materials containing hydroxyl or amide groups such as wool, silk, synthetic polyamide and polyurethane fibres. The dyes may be fixed on natural and regenerated cellulose by treatment with acid-binding agents.
