Abstract

The invention comprises azo dyes of formula <FORM:0996501/C4-C5/1> wherein A and B are o-naphthylene residues, W is a halotriazinyl, halopyrimidyl, halopyrimidinoyl, halopyrimidine - sulphonyl-, haloquinoxalinoyl or haloquinoxaline - sulphonyl radical, R is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl radical and the sum of m and n is 1. The dyes are prepared by condensing a corresponding aminoazo dye copper complex wherein A or B contains an-NHR group with a halotriazine, halopyrimidine, halopyrimidine carboxylic or sulphonic acid halide, haloquinoxaline carboxylic acid halide or haloquinoxaline sulphonic acid halide. The dyes may be used to colour cellulose fibres in the presence of an acid-binding agent in blue shades. In an example the diazo compound from an amine of formula <FORM:0996501/C4-C5/2> is coupled with 1-acetylamino-8-naphthol-3,6-disulphonic acid, the resultant monoazo dye is oxidatively coppered, the copper complex treated with aqueous sodium hydroxide solution to saponify the acetylamino group and the amino compound condensed with cyanuric chloride or 2,3 - dichloroquinoxaline - 6 - carboxylic acid chloride. The primary condensation product from cyanuric chloride may be further condensed with an equimolar amount of metanilic acid. Further examples are specified.
