Abstract

1351491 Azo dyes IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 10 Jan 1972 [18 Feb 1971] 4922/71 Heading C4P The invention comprises azo dyes of formula where E is the residue of a coupling component and R is an amino group or the residue of a primary or secondary amine linked to the sulphur through its nitrogen atom. The dyes may be obtained by coupling the diazonium salt of a 5 - aminosulphonyl - 1 - sulpho - 2 - naphthylamine with a coupling component; or by reacting a cellulose-reactive dye of Formula (2) containing a dichloro- or dibromo-s-triazine group with ammonia or an amine. When E and R of Formula (2) above contains an amino group the dye can be converted to a cellulose reactive dyestuff by condensation with an anhydride or halide of an acid of which the acid radical contains a substituent capable of reacting to form a chemical bond. When the dyestuff contains a plurality of azo groups it can be used as a direct dyestuff for cellulose. Mono- or disazo dyes containing at most 2 SO 3 H groups may be used for drying silk wool and synthetic polyamides.
