Abstract

The invention comprises metallized dyes containing chromium or cobalt, which in their metal-free form are of formula <FORM:0820158/IV(c)/1> wherein X1 is an hydrogen or halogen atom or an alkyl group, R is an alkyl radical or an amino group in which one or two hydrogen atoms are replaced by alkyl, aryl, aralkyl or cycloalkyl radicals which may be substituted and two alkyl groups may be cyclically combined by a simple carbon linkage or through an oxygen atom and "Alkyl" may contain alkoxy groups. The metallized dyes contain one atom of metal to two molecules of the monoazo dye and are prepared by reacting the monoazo dye with a cobalt- or chromium-yielding agent in known manner. Alternatively a mixture of two dyes of formula (I) or of a dye of formula (I) and a metallizable monoazo dye, prepared by coupling a diazotized substituted 2-aminophenol with an ortho-coupling naphthol or naphthylamine or a component coupling ortho to an enolic hydroxy group, may be metallized. The monoazo dyes of formula (I) are prepared by diazotizing a suitable 2-aminophenol-sulphonamide or -alkyl sulphone and coupling with a 1-hydroxy-4-alkoxy- or -alkoxyalkoxy-naphthalene. The metallizable dyes, not of formula (I), used in the mixed complexes are prepared by coupling a diazotized 2-aminophenol substituted by halogen, nitro or sulphonamide, substituents with a naphthol or naphthylamine substituted by alkoxy, carboxylic acid amide or chlorophenyl substituents, an acetoacetyl alkyl- or aryl-amine or a 5-pyrazolone. The metallized dyes dye wool, silk, leather and synthetic polyamides from neutral or weakly acid baths in blue, grey or green shades.
