Abstract

The invention comprises azo dyes and chromium and cobalt complexes thereof which in the metal-free state are of formula <FORM:1034043/C4-C5/1> wherein A is the radical of a diazotized aromatic amine which may contain an azo substituent, B is an acetoacetylamine, 1,3-diaminobenzene, aminopyrazole, aminonaphthalene, hydroxynaphthalene or 2-hydroxynaphthalene which may be substituted in the 3-, 4-, 5-, 6-and/or 7-positions by acylamino groups, coupled in ortho position to a hydroxy or primary or secondary amino group, X is a hydroxy or carboxylic acid group in ortho position to the diazo group and wherein at least one of the radicals A and B is substituted by at least one group of formula <FORM:1034043/C4-C5/2> wherein R is an alkyl radical and R1 is hydrogen or an alkyl radical which may be substituted. The dyes are prepared by the usual coupling procedures and may be after-metallized in substance or on the fibre with chromium- or cobalt-yielding agents. Mixtures of dyes of the above formula and mixtures thereof with other metallizable dyes may be metallized. The metallized dyes may be used to colour wool, silk, synthetic polyamides, polyacrylonitrile, leather and lacquers in brown, violet, blue, grey and yellow shades.
