Abstract

The invention comprises azo dyestuffs represented by the formula D-(SO2,CH=CH,CH2X)n wherein D represents the radical of an azo compound containing at least one carboxylic or sulphonic acid group, X stands for a chlorine atom or a hydroxyl group and n stands for an integer, preferably 1, each group -SO2CH= CH,CH2X being attached to a carbon atom in D; a process for the preparation thereof which comprises diazotizing an aromatic primary amine and coupling the diazonium compound so obtained with a coupling component the amine and the coupling component being so chosen that one or both contains a group of the formula -SO2CH=CH,CH2X where X has the meaning given above and one or both contains at least one carboxylic or sulphonic acid group and a process for the manufacture of dyes of the general formula given above wherein D represents the radical of a metallized azo dyestuff which comprises treating with an agent yielding metal a dyestuff of the kind defined above which also\sH contains \sHmetallizable groups. Metallizable groups specified are hydroxyl and carboxylic groups attached to adjacent carbon atoms and 0:01-dihydroxyazo groups. Specified diazo components include anilines with and without the -SO2CH=CH,CH2X group present and containing such substituents as chloro-, methoxy, hydroxy, sulphonic acid, nitro, methyl, carboxylic and acetylamino groups. Coupling components specified include naphthols and pyrazolones containing such substituents as sulphonic acid, amino, acetylamino, hydroxy and carboxylic groups, acetoacetanilide-4- sulphonic acid and 1:3-phenylene-diamine-4-sulphonic acid. Examples are furnished. The products dye wool from neutral or slightly acid dyebaths in shades from yellow to orange and may be applied to cellulosic textile materials in conjunction with an alkaline agent.
