Abstract

910,111. Metallisable and metalliferous heterocyclic monoazo dyes. COMPAGNIE FRANCAISE DES MATIERES COLORANTES. April 23, 1959 [April 24, 1958], No. 13798/59. Class 2(4). The invention comprises dyes of formula where A is a coupling component residue with OH ortho to the azo link, and their metal complexes. The dyes are made by conventional diazotisation and coupling and metallisation processes. A may be substituted by, e.g. halogen, alkyl, nitro, sulpho, carboxy, sulphonamide and carbamoyl groups and B may contain a halogen, nitro or methyl group. Metal complexes with less than one atom of metal per mol of dye are indicated. Cobalt, nickel, copper, iron, manganese and chromium are specified metals, cobalt and chromium being preferred. The dyes are used for colouring wool, silk, leather, animalised cellulosic fibres, superpoly-amides and -urethanes and organic solvents, lacquers, varnishes and cellulose ether and ester compositions. Examples are provided of the preparation of the dyes and their chromium and cobalt complexes and the use of the metal complexes to dye wool in a variety of colour shades. Representative of coupling components used in the examples are 1-m-chlorophenyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone, acetylacetanilide, 1-acetylamino-7-naphthol, #- naphthol and 3-hydroxy-thio-naphthene. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 824,308.
