Abstract

1425029 Azo dyes derived from thiophene diazo components IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 1 June 1973 [3 July 1972] 31051/72 Heading C4P [Also in Division C2] Novel dyestuffs of the formula (wherein the thiophene nucleus carries at least one non-ionic electron-withdrawing substituent and optionally one or more hydrocarbon radicals which may themselves carry substituents; E is the residue of a coupling component of the arylamine, naphthol, phenol, acylacetarylamide, aminopyrazole, 5-hydroxypyrazole carrying an aliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic radical in the 1-position, or hydroxy pyridone series and n is 1 or 2, the dyes being free from SO 3 H groups and each of the CO 2 H groups being directly attached to the thiophene nucleus or to an aromatic or heterocyclic nucleus present in E or to a saturated carbon atom which forms part of a side chain present in E) are prepared by diazotizing an appropriate 2-amino-thiophene and coupling with an appropriate coupling component. They may be used for dyeing (in yellow to green shades) synthetic textile materials, e.g. cellulose acetates, polyamides, polyacrylonitrile, polyurethanes and polyesters, and their blends with natural fibres such as wool and cellulosic fibres.
