Abstract

2- Aminophenol -4- sulpho- [N-ethyl or -methyl]-21-carboxyanilide is obtained by reacting 1-chloro-2-nitrobenzene-4-sulphochloride with N-ethyl or -methyl-anthranilic acid followed by hydrolysis of the chlorine atom and reduction of the nitro group. 2- Aminophenol -5- sulpho- [N-ethyl]- 21- carboxyanilide is prepared by condensing benzoxazolone-6-sulphochloride with N-ethyl-anthranilic acid followed by hydrolysis of the benzoxazolone ring; 2-aminophenol-4-chloro-5-sulpho-[N-ethyl]-21-carboxyanilide is similarly prepared.ALSO:Metallizable dyes of formula <FORM:0965440/C4-C5/1> wherein X is a hydrogen or halogen atom or a nitro or C1-C3 alkyl group, R is a linear or branched C1-C5 alkyl group or a hydroxyalkyl group, Y is hydrogen or a carboxylic acid group, Z is a hydrogen or halogen atom or a C1-C3 alkyl group or a carboxylic acid group and R1 is a residue of a coupling component which couples in ortho-position to a hydroxyl or amino group are used to dye textile fibres with subsequent metallization (see Division C2). In an example, 2 - aminophenol - 4 - sulpho - [N - ethyl] - 21 - carboxyanilide is diazotized and coupled in the usual manner with 1-carbomethoxyamino-7-naphthol. Further coupling components specified in examples are 1-phenyl-3-methyl- or -carbamyl-5-pyrazolone, 1-(31-chlorophenyl) - 3 - methyl - 5 - pyrazolone, 1 - acetylamino - 7 - naphthol, 2 - naphthol, 1 - chloro - 4 - naphthol and 2,4 - dihydroxyquinoline.ALSO:Textile materials, in particular wool, are dyed by treating them with a monoazo dye of formula:- <FORM:0965440/D1-D2/1> wherein X is a hydrogen or halogen atom or a nitro or C1-C3 alkyl C group, R is a linear or branched C1-C5 alkyl group or a hydroxyalkyl group, Y is hydrogen or a carboxylic acid group, Z is a hydrogen or halogen atom or a C1-C3 alkyl group or a carboxylic acid group and R1 is a coupling component residue which couples in orthoposition to a hydroxyl or amino group and metallising, in particular chroming, the dyeing obtained. The chroming may be by the metachrome process or by after-chroming. Red, blue and grey shades are obtained on wool. The process is described in examples.
