Abstract
The invention comprises the 1:2-chromium or 1:2-cobalt complexes of the azo compounds of the formula <FORM:0995365/C4-C5/1> wherein E represents the residue of a coupling component of the acetoacetarylamide, 1-aryl-5-pyrazolone or naphthol series, R1 and R11 each independently represent hydrogen or chlorine atoms and the <FORM:0995365/C4-C5/2> group is directly attached to a carbon atom of an aryl ring present in E. The complexes may be prepared by metallizing appropriate metal free azo dyes or by acylating appropriate 1:2-cobalt or chromium complexes of azo dyes containing amino groups with such acylating agents as a -chloro-, b -chloro- or a :b -dichloroacryloyl chloride or acyloyl chloride. In examples: metal complexes are obtained by reacting diazotized 4 - chloro - 2 - aminophenol - 5 - sulphonamide with 4-acryloylamino-acetanilide, 1-acryloylamino - 6 - naphthol and 1 - (41 - acryloylaminophenyl) - 3 - methyl - 5 - pyrazolone respectively and metallizing the first two dyes with cobalt acetate and the third with chromium acetate and the chromium complex of sodium salicylate (1,2 and 4). Additional examples are furnished and starting materials specified. The dyes are applied to wool from a neutral or acid dyebath.
