Abstract

1279283 Disazo dyes and their complex metal compounds FARBWERKE HOECHST AG 24 Sept 1969 [25 Sept 1968] 47051/69 Heading C4P The invention comprises water-soluble disazo dyestuffs, and their 1:1- copper, -1:2- chromium and 1 : 2-cobalt complexes, which correspond in the metal-free form to the Formula I: where D is a diazo component radical of the benzene or naphthalene series having in the o position to the azo group a substituent capable of forming a metal complex or capable of being transformed under the conditions of metallization into such a substituent, K is a coupling component radical of the benzene, naphthalene or pyrazolone series, R is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group, X is linked to D and/or K by a grouping -NR- and represents the grouping or where R<SP>1</SP> is hydrogen or an alkyl group, R<SP>11</SP> is hydrogen, alkyl or phenyl, Y and Y<SP>1</SP> are fluorine or chlorine, m is 0 or 1 and n is 1 or 2. The dyes of Formula I may be prepared (a) by diazotizing a dyestuff of Formula 4 and reacting the product with a coupling component K, at least one reactant carrying a group -NR-X, and optionally converting the dyestuff to its 1: 1-copper, 1 : 2-chromium or 1: 2-cobalt complex, (b) coupling a diazotized component D with a dyestuff of the Formula 5 at least one reactant carrying a group-NR-X, and optionally converting the dyestuff to its 1: 1-copper, 1: 2-chromium or 1: 2-cobalt complex, (c) diazotizing a 1: 1-copper, 1 : 2- chromium or 1 : 2-cobalt complex of a dyestuff of Formula 4 and coupling the product with a coupling component K, the dyestuff obtained containing at least one grouping NR-X, or (d) acylating dyestuffs of the Formula 6 before or after conversion into a metal complex, with an acid halide to introduce the group X. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 1,097,361, 1,103,423, 1,123,804 and 1,245,267.
