Abstract

The invention comprises dyestuffs of formula <FORM:0783753/IV (b)/1> where R is a benzene residue containing a metallizable group o to the azo group, and heavy metal complexes thereof. They are made by coupling appropriate diazo benzenes and 2,6-dihydroxy-4-methylquinoline and optionally metallizing the product. The diazo compounds may contain substituents such as -SO3H, -SCOOH, -SO2 (or -CO-)-NH2, -SO2 (or -CO-)-NH-alkyl, -SO2 (or -CO-)-N(alkyl)2, -SO2-alkyl, -SO2-aralkyl, -SO2-aryl, -alkyl, -NO2, -halogen, O-alkyl, and -SO2-CH2-O, in the 3 and 4 positions relative to the metallizable group. Metallization may be effected in known fashion in substance or on the fibre. The dyestuffs dye wool and polyamide fibres in blue, brown or olive shades by a single bath or after-chroming process. In examples which illustrate the preparation of the dyestuffs and their use in dyeing the following diazo components are used 1-amino-2-hydroxy-5-nitrobenzene and its 3-sulphuric acid, 1-amino-2-hydroxy-4-nitro- and -3,5 - dinitro - benzenes, 1 - amino - 2 - phenol - 5-ethylsulphon and sulphonamide which may be alkylated on the amide nitrogen and 4-sulphodimethylamide and 1 - amino - 2 - carboxybenzene-4- and -5-sulphonic acids.
