Abstract
The invention comprises dyes of formula <FORM:0823064/IV(c)/1> where X is -OC-CH = CH-CO- or preferably -CO- and Me is Ni or Cu. They are made by metallizing, by usual methods, appropriate stilbene azo dyes or by linking 2 mols. of appropriate metal stilbene dyes by treatment with phosgene or a fumaric acid dihalide. The metal-free dyes may be made by coupling, advantageously in an alkaline medium, appropriate dipyrazolones on both sides with diazotized 4-chloro-2-aminobenzene-1-carboxylic acid or by linking 2 mols. of appropriate dyes by treatment with phosgene or a fumaric acid dihalide. The dyes are used to dye or print cellulosic materials. Examples are provided of the preparation of the dyes and their use in dyeing cotton in yellow shades.
