Abstract

Azo dyes containing chromium are made by treating with an agent yielding chromium an azo dye obtainable by combining a diazotized 2-amino-1-naphthol-monosulphonic acid of the general formula <FORM:0450638/IV/1> wherein two x's represent H and one x a SO3H group, with b -naphthol. They dye wool, silk and leather. In the examples, 2-diazo-1-naphthol-7- or 8-sulphonic acid is coupled with b -naphthol and the products treated with basic chromium sulphate (blue and greenish blue respectively on wool). Examples of the dyeing process are given. A sample has been furnished under Sect. 2 (5) of the chromium compound of 2 - amino - 1 - naphthol - 6 - sulphonic acid --> b -naphthol. The diazo compounds may be prepared by diazotization in presence of copper sulphate or in sulphuric acid.
