Abstract

Azo dyes are made by coupling diazotized 4 - nitro - 2 - aminophenol - 6 - sulphonic acid with a phenol having in p-position an alkyl group with at least 3 and at most 5 carbon atoms. They dye wool in an acid bath yellow-brown tints changing to a full and covered brown when after-chromed, faster to potting and light than the dyestuffs named in Specification 325,208, [Class 2 (iii)]. They may also be chromed in substance. Coupling components specified in examples are p-tertiary-amylphenol, p-isopropylphenol and p-tertiary-butylphenol. Pyridine facilitates the coupling.
