Abstract

Metal compounds of secondary disazo dyes are made by coupling a diazotized nitroamine of the benzene or naphthalene series which may contain further substituents but does not contain a hydroxy group in o-position to the amino group with a 1-amino-2-naphthol ether or a sulphonic acid thereof, rediazotizing, coupling with an N-acyl- or N-aryl- J acid and treating with an agent providing metal. They dye vegetable fibres in fast grey shades. In examples the following dyes are described: (1) p - nitroaniline --> 1 - amino - 2 - naphtholethylether - 6 - sulphonic acid --> N - benzoyl J acid treated with copper sulphate in presence of acetic acid; (2) m-nitroaniline --> 1-amino-2-naphtholethylether - 6 - sulphonic acid --> N - m-carboxyphenyl J acid treated as above; (3) 6 - nitro - 2 - naphthylamine - 8 - sulphonic acid --> 1 - amino - 2 - ethoxynaphthalene - 6 - sulphonic acid --> N - benzoyl J acid treated with a solution of copper sulphate; (4) 5-nitro-2-aminoanisole --> 1 - amino - 2 - ethoxynaphthalene - 6 - sulphonic acid --> N - m - carboxyphenyl J acid treated as in (1).
