Abstract

Chromium orthohydroxy azo dyestuffs are prepared by coupling diazotized 5-nitro-4-chlor-2-amino phenol with 1-naphthol-3 : 8-disulphonic acid or 1-naphthol-4 : 8-disulphonic acid and chrominating the azo dyestuffs thus obtained. It is stated that in contrast to known chromium compounds derived from 5-nitro-4-chlor-2-amino phenol and naphthalene disulphonic acids, the new compounds show an especially high levelling power. In examples: (1) 5-nitro-4-chlor-2-aminophenol --->1-naphthol 4 : 8-disulphonic acid, the dyestuff is then treated with a solution of chromium sulphate and salted out. The chromium compound yields on wool, deep, very level navy blue dyeings.; (2) 5-nitro-4-chlor-2-aminophenol ---> 1-naphthol-3 : 8-disulphonic acid, the dyestuff is then treated with a solution of chromium formate. It yields dark greenish blue dyeings. Specification 9264/06, [Class 2], is referred to.
