Abstract
Tetrakisazo dyestuffs containing copper are made by combining, in either order, dihydroxy compounds of the benzene or naphthalene series capable of coupling twice, e.g. resorcinol, resorcinol-4-carboxylic acid, 2 : 6-dihydroxytoluene, 1 : 6- and 1 : 7-dihydroxynaphthalene-3-sulpho acid, in one case with a diazo compound suitable for yielding azo dyes which are capable of forming heavy metal complex compounds and in the other with a diazotized aminobenzoylamino disazo dye of the general formula A - N = N - M1 - N = N - M2 -- NHCO - X - NH2, (in which A represents the residue of an initial component of the benzene or naphthalene series, M1 is a residue of a middle component of the benzene or naphthalene series, M2 is a residue of a middle component of the benzene series and X is a residue of the benzene series, in which the --NH2 group is in m- or p-position to the --CO group), and acting with an agent providing copper in any phase of the manufacture of the dyestuff. The formation of the complex compounds may also be effected in the dye-bath or on the fibre. They yield brown shades on vegetable material fast to light and are unaffected by brightening. The following dyes are described in examples: (1) 2 - naphthylamine - 6 : 8 - disulphonic acid --> m-toluidine --> m-toluidine (p-aminobenzoylated) diazotized and coupled with resorcinol \sM 2-aminophenol-4-sulphonic acid treated with ammoniacal copper sulphate (yellowish brown on cotton or mixed tissues of cotton and viscose); the diazotized p-aminobenzoylamino disazo dye may also be coupled with the coppered monoazo dye 2-aminophenol-4-sulphonic acid --> resorcinol; coppering of the monoazo dye or of the final dyestuff may also be effected according to Specification 296,819, [Class 2 (iii)], when starting from 1-methoxy-2-aminobenzene-4-sulphonic acid, or according to Specification 388,332 when starting from 2-chloroaniline-5-sulphonic acid instead of 2-aminophenol-4-sulphonic acid; the latter may also be replaced by 2-amino-4-nitrophenol-6-sulphonic acid or 2-amino-6-nitrophenol-4-sulphonic acid or chlor-o-aminophenol sulphonic acids or o-aminocresol sulphonic acids or o-aminobenzoic acids; the diazotized p-aminobenzoylamino disazo dye may first be combined with the resorcinol and the product coupled with the p diazo compound; (2) 2-naphthylamine4 : 8-disulphonic acid --> a -naphthylamine --> 1 - methyl - 3 - amino - 4 - methoxybenzene (m- or p-aminobenzoylated) diaztoized and coupled with the monoazo dyestuff 2-chloraniline-5-sulphonic acid --> resorcinol coppered according to Specification 388,332; (3) 2-naphthylamine-3 : 6 : 8-trisulphonic acid --> m-toluidine --> m-toluidine (p-aminobenzoylated) diazotized and coupled with 1 : 6-dihydroxynaphthalene-3-sulphonic acid \sM 4-chloro-2-aminophenol treated with copper sulphate (dark brown on cotton). A table of further combinations stating the shades obtained on cotton with the complex copper compounds is also given.
