Abstract

The invention comprises copper containing disazo dyes of the general formula <FORM:1006891/C4-C5/1> wherein R stands for the residue of a sulphonaphthalene in which the complex-bound oxygen atom stands in the o-position to the azo group and "acyl" stands for an acyl residue. The dyes are prepared by coupling tetrazotized 3,31-dimethoxy or 3,31-dichloro-4,41\h - diaminodiphenyl with 2 - acylamino - 5-hydroxynaphthalene-4, 8-disulphonic acid and a hydroxynaphthalene sulphonic acid and treating the dyestuff with a copper-yielding agent. In an example dianisidine is tetrazotized and coupled with 1-hydroxynaphthalene-4,8- disulphonic acid and 2-benzoylamino-5-hydroxynaphthalene-4,8-disulphonic acid and the dyestuff is heated with aqueous ammoniacal copper sulphate solution. Additional 2-acylamino-5-hydroxy - naphthalene - 4,8 - disulphonic acids specified for use in the process possess as acylamino groups in the 2-position, benzoylamino-, L-nitro-benzoylamino-, o- or p-chlorobenzoylamino, acetylamino and o -chloro-acetylamino groups. The dyes colour cellulosic materials in bluish shades.
